This morning at the Palma Burgos hall in the Luis de la Cueva Palace the presentation of the Ubeda Soundtrack Festival was held, a new international festival focused on film music, which will become part of the rich cultural agenda the city of Ubeda, Spain.
In the press conference, chaired by the Mayor of Ubeda, Antonia Olivares, this interesting event arising from the pioneering collaboration between two of the most active and important cultural associations of the city has been presented. On the one hand, the Cultural Association “Amigos de la Música”, organizer of the prestigious International Festival of Music and Dance «City of Ubeda», which this year will celebrate its twenty-eighth edition. And on the other, BSOSpirit Association, organizer of the International Film Music Festival «City of Ubeda», which was held in the city for seven years, its latest edition in the summer of 2011.
Ubeda Soundtrack Festival is born with the firm intention to be a mainstay in the cultural program of the city. Besides, it must be highlighted its international appeal, following the heritage that the missing Film Music Festival, which was organized successfully by BSOSpirit, marked in the past. Ubeda Soundtrack Festival also intents to cover the gap left by the extinct Film Music Festival, and does so with an approach that is based firmly in its inception. In the countless benefits that the collaboration of these two associations will mean for the event.
In the press conference Antonio Montoya Sánchez, Director of the International Festival of Music and Dance «City of Ubeda» and Vice President of the Cultural Association of “Amigos de la Música” and Fernando Fernández Jiménez, President of the Association BSOSpirit, have raised the basic lines of this new event. «Ubeda Soundtrack Festival will be a Festival of all and for all», the organizers stressed.
In its aspiration to be anchored in the DNA of the city, the Festival is born with a fully participatory nature, where it is sought to add assets to enrich the project. What’s more, its organizers have advanced that shortly a crowdfunding campaign will be launched to further encourage that feeling of product created by everyone.
The foundations that make up the event have been discussed, as well as some hints about its program. The backbone of the Ubeda Soundtrack Festival will be the spirit of community. The most important asset treasured by the disappeared International Film Music Festival «City of Ubeda» through which became the place where everyone who wanted to enjoy film music in a close and relaxed environment peregrinated every year.
Along these lines, the program of the first edition of Ubeda Soundtrack Festival will focus on a heartfelt tribute to Basil Poledouris. And this is because summer of 2016 will mark the tenth anniversary of the beloved American composer first and last concert focused on his masterpiece, «Conan the Barbarian» in the city of Ubeda.
Ubeda Soundtrack Festival will welcome the family of the late composer, currently preparing alongside the organizers of the event an appointment of international appeal that will also gather the creativity of different film music composers from all corners of the planet that will pay tribute to this immortal artist.
PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MALAGA FESTIVAL
From its beginnings, Ubeda Soundtrack Festival will form an outstanding partnership. No more and no less than a close working relationship with Movie Score Málaga (MOSMA), International Film Music Festival, organized by the Malaga Film Festival which will also have its first edition this 2016, a week before Ubeda Soundtrack Festival.
This relationship arises because one of the first contributions that the Festival receives as a participatory event, is from cultural manager David Doncel Barthe, former director of the Film Music Festival «City of Ubeda» and current coordinator of MOSMA contents.
This common link seeks to provide differentiation between the two festivals, in addition to complementin and leveraging the natural synergies of an union, which will position the two festivals in the European film music festival circuit and will define them as the two most important appointments on the national scene of this type of music.
A LOGO THAT LOOKS BACK
Ubeda Soundtrack Festival also presented its official logo, designed by Andrés Antunez, who was commissioned to create the logo of the International Film Music Festival «City of Ubeda» 11 years ago.
Andrés returns to Ubeda once more, another link to the past, but with a whole new logo that looks to the future with renewed life.

BASIL POLEDOURIS
Basil Poledouris attended the Ubeda Festival just one week after surgery because of a brain tumor. The composer was filled with energy from the environment of the Festival, with the love the fans professed for his work. For 40 glorious minutes attendees witnessed live the struggle and the human improvement desire though an unforgettable performance. A legacy that went on to become the first and unfortunately last concert the composer ever gave. Ubeda was part of this incredible unique event. The City witnessed the mastery of his music. That passion and struggle can move mountains. That dreams can come true.
